**THE SCHOOL**

Lorien Novalis Steiner School is situated in the Hills District of Sydney, about 45 minutes to the northwest of the city, nestled in over 6 hectares of lush bushlands and landscaped gardens. The school has been offering a rich and creative Steiner curriculum for over 50 years and has built a strong reputation for the diverse and engaging education that it provides.

**THE POSITION**

To provide caring, creative, and engaging educational programs in TAS/Design & Technology education for Secondary students working with the pedagogical and artistic indications of Rudolf Steiner and the Lorien Novalis' ethos.

Training and ongoing professional development are fundamental to our approach, and the school provides opportunities for growth in these areas.

**EMPLOYMENT BASIS**

This role could be suitable for a student teacher who is finishing a education degree or an existing experienced Teacher. It could be part time from 0.2 upwards to fulltime. The school will provide mentoring and training opportunities for those who are new to Steiner Education.

**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Prepare the classroom for class activities.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instructional activities that promote active learning.
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for educational activities.
- Instruct and supervise students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Observe, support, and evaluate students' performance and development.
- Utilize relevant technology to enhance instruction.
- Manage student behaviour effectively in the classroom.
- Assess and manage risks appropriately.
- Communicate necessary information regularly with students, colleagues, and parents as needed.
- Attend meetings, training sessions, and school functions as required, and perform regular duties such as playground supervision.
- Carry out other duties as directed by the Principal.

**KEY COMPETENCIES**
- A genuine passion for design across various contexts, with the ability to inspire young people to appreciate the design and creative process.
- Experience teaching students to work with different materials in practical projects.
- Knowledge and skills in operating and maintaining a range of machinery.
- Proficiency in preparing materials for diverse projects.
- Familiarity with a variety of technologies to support teaching and professional responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of contemporary WHS procedures and obligations.
- Appropriate qualifications and eligibility to teach in accordance with NSW law and school policy.
- Comprehensive knowledge of effective teaching strategies tailored to student needs.
- Deep understanding of curriculum requirements, with the ability to create and deliver engaging and well-structured teaching activities.
- Commitment to educational excellence and alignment with the ethos and values of Lorien Novalis School.

**PREFERRED COMPETENCIES**
- Skills in metalwork, including welding, fabrication, and forging, or a willingness to learn.
