Job Overview
Barcaldine Downs is a 50,000 acre family‑owned cattle and sheep enterprise near Barcaldine Qld, with approximately 1500 breeders.
We have an opportunity for a responsible hands‑on working property Farm Manager to join in the day‑to‑day running of our enterprise.
We are predominantly interested in your knowledge of broadacre farming systems and any exposure to cattle husbandry. The Farm Manager will execute all aspects of production, cattle water points and cattle husbandry under instruction from the off‑farm owner.
Required Experience and Skills
The candidates will ideally have the following:
* Experience in a similar farm role, with a passion in progressive and modern farming (desired).
* Ability to execute a plan, making the necessary adjustments in season to maximise profitability.
* Leadership capabilities.
* Stock husbandry knowledge and experience (desired).
* A great team player.
* Attention to detail and take personal responsibility for your work.
Personal Attributes
* The ability to work independently under instruction from the absentee owner.
* Must be willing to take on responsibility.
* Good communication skills as you will be liaising with on‑farm staff and some contractors.
* Able to take constructive direction in a positive manner.
* Adaptability—changing seasonal conditions often demand changing management decisions.
* A calm demeanour and all‑round positive attitude.
* Capability with general farm repairs, maintenance and farm development including but not exclusively fencing, water reticulation systems, plant, machinery, vehicles and yard maintenance.
* Must treat employer's tools, equipment and vehicles with care and respect.
* Willing to work with and incorporate advice from outside specialists.
* To ensure that at all times work is carried out in a manner which complies with the requirements of the Health & Safety Act.
A house, utilities and work vehicle are included in the package. Salary negotiable based on experience. The opportunity for work for couples with relevant experience and skills would also be available. The use of your own horses and dogs can also be negotiated.
