Role - SafeWork Assistant State Inspector - Operations Regional South

This range is provided by NSW Department of Customer Service. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.

Base pay range

A$142,691.00/yr - A$144,034.00/yr

- Salary range: $142,034 to $144,034 + superannuation
- Duration: Ongoing/Permanent

SafeWork NSW is the state's workplace health and safety regulator. Our focus is to protect NSW workers by preventing and reducing work related fatalities, serious injuries, and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation.

SafeWork NSW is undergoing an exciting and important period of transformation as we establish the organisation as a modern, strong and standalone Work Health and Safety Regulator.

About the team

SafeWork NSW Operations Regional South directorate has a strategic approach to supporting protected, healthy, and productive workplaces in Regional NSW. This approach focuses on protecting NSW workers through strategic stakeholder engagement, evidence-based and risk-focused harm prevention initiatives, and proportionate and targeted regulatory responses to incidents and service requests.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to

- Developing and maintaining partnerships with Industry Associations to build industry and community capability, including hosting industry forums representing SafeWork NSW.
- Applying specialist experience, qualifications and knowledge to develop and lead mentoring and training programs for your fellow inspectors.
- Providing leadership and expertise about emerging safety issues to build industry capability and implement harm prevention strategies.
- Contributing to driving behaviour and cultural change across NSW workplaces on work health and safety issues.
- Responding to requests for service and incidents, carry out proactive compliance and engagement activities across all harms, risks and industries.
- Implementing educational and awareness activities including attending and presenting at events that support industry associations and other stakeholder groups.
- Conducting inspections and investigations to improve workplace safety outcomes
- Delivering education and engagement programs for workers and employers
- Responding to serious workplace incidents as part of the emergency response service
- Providing practical advice and guidance to industry and stakeholders
- Participating in the planning and development of targeted projects to reduce harm in workplaces and support SafeWork NSW Regulatory Priorities.

About you

- Confident in engaging and building relationships with workplaces and stakeholders
- Skilled at explaining complex information in clear, practical terms
- Able to balance capability building with compliance and enforcement in NSW workplaces
- Comfortable working in dynamic environments with competing priorities
- Passionate about improving workplace safety through targeted industry specific proactive programs.

To be successful

- Apply your experience in WHS, compliance and enforcement to deliver improved safety outcomes
- Build trusted relationships and influence stakeholders to achieve sustainable change
- Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, to a diverse audience including industry, unions and government stakeholders
- Demonstrate resilience and professionalism when responding to complex, high-pressure situations
- Contribute to organisational objectives by supporting colleagues and leading by example

What we offer

- Work a 38-hour working week, including some weekends and participate in the After-Hours Emergency Response Service
- Receive an attractive salary package along with the required tools of the trade, including a vehicle with access to private use (currently at a cost of approximately $210 per fortnight)
- Be able to access flexible working conditions within operational requirements
