Employment Lawyer
Posted: 28 April
Offer description

* Make a difference by helping create safer, fairer workplaces for women and creating lasting change.
* Are you an experienced employment lawyer passionate about advancing gender equity and workplace justice?

Join Northern Community Legal Centre as part of Working Women's Centre Victoria, delivering specialist legal services that empower women and gender‐diverse people experiencing workplace disadvantage.

We are seeking a Managing Employment Lawyer to lead, and a Senior Employment Lawyer to help deliver the Working Women's Centre Victoria (WWC Vic) service, as part of a consortium within Northern Community Legal Centre, to support women to achieve safe, fair and equitable workplaces.

Working Women's Centre Victoria (WWC Vic) is a statewide program providing trauma‐informed legal services grounded in a gender‐based and feminist lens. The program aims to build a gender equitable society where women workers have access to decent, safe and fair work. We support all workers who identify as women (including cis and trans women), as well as non‐binary workers.

Our work focuses on employment law, including discrimination, sexual harassment, underpayment, unfair dismissal, and insecure work.

We combine legal advice and representation with community education and systemic advocacy to improve workplace rights and drive broader reform. Working Women's Centre Victoria

* Manage and oversee cases and participate in a process to identify complex and intersecting legal and non‐legal issues.
* Embed trauma‐informed, client‐centred and culturally safe practice
* Work collaboratively with legal and community development teams to deliver integrated services
* Contribute to systemic advocacy, strategic litigation and law reform
* Support and mentor junior lawyers and students

In addition to the above, the Managing Employment Lawyer will:

* Lead the team and service delivery
* Undertake complex and strategic litigation.
* Provide support and supervision of lawyers to ensure high quality and accurate advice and ensure the proper management of client case files.
* Contribute to strategic advocacy and law reform on issues such as gender pay equity, workplace discrimination, and insecure work.
