We’re on the hunt for an experienced, detail-driven, and collaborative Payroll Manager to join our People & Culture team on a 6-month fixed-term contract.
This role leads our Payroll Process and function across our AMIGA Montessori services in Victoria and South Australia. The role is covering a period of extended leave, and will involve running our fortnightly payroll, and supporting strategic initiatives, projects, and training on alternate weeks.
Based in our Head Office in Melbourne, this role is best suited to someone who thrives on process ownership, enjoys interpreting legislation and Modern Awards, and communicates with clarity and empathy—even when the topic is complex.
While no two days are identical, this role will primarily include:
● Managing the end-to-end payroll for a workforce of 500–600 employees accross our centres
● Applying relevant Awards and legislation in a payroll context
● Ensuring compliance with NES, superannuation, WorkCover and leave entitlements
● Managing payments for parental leave and worker’s compensation
● Accurately processing payment of the ECEC Worker Retention Grant
● Providing clear and supportive payroll advice to staff and Centre Leaders
● Supporting reporting, audits, and reconciliations
● Identifying and implementing process improvements within the payroll function
About you
You’re an experienced payroll professional who can balance precision with flexibility, and compliance with kindness.
You’re confident in managing high-volume payroll and love making things easier for those around you—especially when they’re not payroll experts. You understand that great payroll is more than just numbers—it’s about people feeling valued and respected.
You’ll be empowered to take ownership of your function and trusted to work independently while remaining part of a close-knit and supportive team.
This role would be perfect for someone who:
● Has experience managing payroll for timesheet employees, across multiple locations
● Understands the application of Awards, including Children’s Services and Teachers Awards
● Has strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, WorkCover, and superannuation
● Can interpret and implement complex payroll changes, including grant payments
● Communicates clearly and confidently with those less familiar with payroll
● Is a genuine team player who’s flexible and solutions-focused
Highly regarded:
● Experience in the Early Childhood Education sector
● Experience with ECEC Worker Retention Grant payments
