Our client is one of Australia’s largest energy infrastructure companies, owning and operating a vast network of gas infrastructure pipelines, distribution networks, and storage facilities. They are a critical player in Australia’s energy market, providing the utilities needed today while actively developing renewable energy solutions for a sustainable future.
The Role
Our client is seeking a Legal Counsel to join their collaborative in‑house legal team. This is a diverse role providing comprehensive legal support across a range of commercial and infrastructure matters. The legal function is highly integrated with the regulation, strategy and commercial functions and the executive team includes leaders focused on the energy transition and commercial operations, ensuring legal is front‑and‑centre in strategic decisions.
Key Responsibilities
* Drafting and negotiating EPC, Supply, Operating agreements and procurement contracts.
* Managing long‑term infrastructure and transport contracts.
* Providing strategic legal advice across regulatory compliance, commercial transactions, and risk management.
* Supporting various functions of the business through clear, commercially focused legal guidance.
* Advising on contract interpretation, claims, and dispute resolution strategies.
* Managing engagement with external legal advisors where required.
This position offers exposure to a broad mix of work across the construction and reinforcement of existing infrastructure, along with economic regulation and regulatory compliance – ideal for a lawyer seeking a varied, impactful role in a complex and evolving business environment.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will have between 2–5 years of post‑admission experience (PAE) gained in a reputable law firm or in‑house legal team, with solid experience across construction, renewable energy, utilities and corporate law.

* Strong understanding of contract strategy and risk management principles.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to advise and influence.
* A commercial and solutions‑focused mindset, able to balance legal risk with practical business outcomes.
* The ability to work autonomously while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
* Sound judgement, adaptability, and professionalism in managing competing priorities.
