Disability Support Worker – Tewantin, Queensland

Preferred Minimum Qualifications: Diploma of Nursing

Curto Care, a private family organization, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate person to join our team in Tewantin, Queensland. This part-time role lies at the heart of our mission to empower an individual with high needs disabilities, he is blind and a quadriplegic, to live with dignity, comfort, and independence in his own home. We believe that the right care, delivered with empathy and professionalism, can transform a life—and we invite a like-minded candidate to join our close-knit, supportive team. The client is NDIS funded.

About the Role

As a Disability Support Worker at Curto Care, you will provide high-quality, person-centered support to a single male client living with complex needs. Our client, in his sixties, has had multiple strokes over a number of years. He is blind and a quadriplegic. The client is intelligent and charming. Occasionally, when in pain, he can lose his temper and be verbally abusive but apologizes after calming down. He values his independence and the quiet comfort of home, and we are committed to fostering an environment where he can thrive.

Your primary responsibilities will focus on delivering comprehensive care and holistic daily support. The role is not only about addressing physical needs but also about building genuine rapport and nurturing well-being in every interaction.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

· Direct Care: Provide personal care tailored to the client's unique needs, including assistance with eating and drinking, showering, grooming, medication administration, and exercising. Your attentive support will help maintain the client's health, hygiene, and dignity at all times.

· Nursing Skills: Medication Administration, Wound Dressing, flushing and care of SPC.

· Home Support: Contribute to maintaining a comfortable and organised living space through daily housekeeping tasks, ensuring the client's environment is safe and welcoming. Some pool care and use of a blower may be required.

· Medical Appointments: Accompany and support the client during visits to healthcare professionals, such as doctors and dentists, advocating for the client's needs and ensuring a seamless care experience. The client uses a wheelchair and will travel in a maxi-taxi. Alternatively, the client will be transported in an ambulance. He never travels in a car.

· Documentation: Accurately document client progress and maintain comprehensive records in accordance with best practice and organizational requirements. Your attention to detail will ensure continuity of care and inform ongoing support strategies.

· Team Communication: Collaborate with the broader care team, including family members and allied health professionals, to ensure coordinated and consistent support for the client. Open, respectful communication is central to our philosophy.

· Compliance and Safety: Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and safety standards. By remaining vigilant and upholding best practices, you will help create a safe, supportive, and positive environment.

What We're Looking For

Curto Care is searching for a carer who embodies professionalism, empathy, and resilience. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and attributes:

· Qualifications: Diploma of Nursing (Preferred)

· Experience: Prior experience in a role providing high-intensity support, particularly for clients with complex physical needs or disabilities. Familiarity with supporting individuals who are blind or quadriplegic is highly regarded.

· Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication abilities, both written and verbal. You should be able to build rapport easily, listen with empathy, and collaborate effectively with clients, families, and colleagues.

· Patience and Flexibility: A calm, adaptable approach to care, with the capacity to handle challenges and changing needs. Your patience will enable the client to feel respected and understood.

· Commitment: A genuine dedication to supporting the client's independence, well-being, and quality of life. You see the person, not just the condition, and strive to empower them in all aspects of daily living.
