About the OPPORTUNITY –
We have a excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Maritime business based either at Osborne, SA, or Melbourne, Vic.
If you are based outside of Adelaide, please note occasional travel to Osborne may be required.
This role will see you work within the PI Production Engineering Team as part of the DCE DDG program. As the Mechanical Engineer you will be working on reviewing engineering artefacts and identifying/assessing any mechanical issues that may be present in drawings or artefacts. You will be part of the engineering change team who will be assessing and provide impact assessment for new drawing releases and informing the PMO and production team of the impact. You will be working with various groups of key stakeholders to address the issues identified and to provide solutions prior to production.
Ideally you will have worked in a maritime or ship building environment previously, with experience in design and review of drawings to check for any gaps in artefacts prior to manufacturing/production.
This role will see you:
- Assist with engineering change reviews/ design reviews on artifacts that will be used for production, manufacturing and assembly as part of DCE DDG upgrade program
- Advice and define production techniques with respect to assembly and test process capabilities, in pursuit of on-time delivery of cost competitive, quality products.
- Input into design for manufacturability
- Provide recommendations and introduce new ways to identify defects and anomalies in design artifacts to ensure manufacturing/production is made to the correct standard and requirements.
- Act as an engineering technical liaison between Engineering, Production, Planning, supply chain and PMs
- Support the DCE DDG cataloguing team as required by providing technical advice.
- Provide Meta data from engineering artefacts to support the development of CoConsole to generate OQEs
- Ensure that the DCE DDG tasks are safely conducted using processes and procedures that are compliant with WHS legislation and the BAE Systems SHEQ policies.
- Participate in problem identification and analysis

About YOU
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical or structural design, reviewing and analysing mechanical drawings/artefacts, ideally in a production environment
- Experience working in a maritime or ship building environment is highly desirable
- Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team as per assigned tasking needs
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills – communication both written and verbal to internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing tasks/priorities, both in a team and autonomously
- Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
