About The Livestock Exchange

The East Gippsland Livestock Exchange is a nationally accredited saleyard facility in Bairnsdale that provides a low‑stress, high‑welfare environment supported by NSQA, MSA, EUCAS and NLIS compliance. It offers modern infrastructure—including undercover soft‑floor pens, efficient weighing systems and strong biosecurity practices—to ensure safe, accurate and sustainable livestock handling for vendors, buyers and the broader agricultural community.

The Opportunity

The Livestock Exchange Supervisor leads the daily operations of the East Gippsland Livestock Exchange, ensuring the saleyards run safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with industry and legislative requirements. The role oversees staff, maintenance, contractor activity, and stakeholder engagement to deliver high‑quality service and uphold animal welfare and biosecurity standards. It also provides operational leadership through effective planning, budgeting, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities Include

Manage asset and infrastructure maintenance, including hands‑on maintenance of yards and floors, to ensure they are clean, safe, well‑maintained, and fully prepared before each sale.
Lead daily operations of the East Gippsland Livestock Exchange, coordinating staff, sale days, and stakeholder engagement.
Oversee compliance with animal welfare, biosecurity, NLIS, NSQA, and emergency management requirements.
Monitor budgets, oversee procurement, and support financial reporting and capital planning.
Promote a strong safety culture, ensure OHS compliance, and drive continuous improvement across all site activities.

This is a full time, ongoing position based in Bairnsdale. The successful applicant will need to undergo a police check, pre-employment medical and have a Working with Children Check.

What We're Looking For

Demonstrated experience in livestock related business operations
Demonstrated experience in business improvement and process implementation
Proven ability to manage team member and contractor performance to meet expectations
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders and build relationships
Relevant experience in driving a culture of safety and compliance in a team environment
Experienced skid-steer user and confidence in operation of tools, plant and equipment.
