About the role:

The Business Partnering and Workplace Relations Division comprises human resources generalists and workplace relations specialists who provide end-to-end advice and support on all employee and industrial relations matters. The division is primarily focused on assisting Victoria Police in managing its workforce of over 22,000 employees, in line with certified industrial agreements and employment legislation. This includes providing high-level advice and support on employees' working conditions and entitlements, managing complaints associated with workplace conflict, bullying and VPS misconduct, undertaking organisation reviews and realignments and redeploying sworn and VPS employees to suitable employment.
As a member of the Client & Partnering Portfolio Team, you will manage a team of 7 Workplace Relations Consultants and case manage complex workplace relations matters including mobility of employees and outside policy applications. Your work will be based at the Victoria Police Centre in Docklands, however at times you may have planned travel to various metropolitan and regional locations within Victoria to support clients.

Your duties will include:
1. Providing high-level strategic workplace relations advice and guidance to a diverse range of internal clients;
2. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including unions;
3. Modelling proactive end-to-end case management of complex workplace relations matters including mobility of employees, ill-health retirement and outside policy applications;
4. Providing an industrial lens to Workplace Relations procedure to ensure contemporary, efficient process improvements;
5. Developing, reviewing and implementing contemporary human resource policies, guidelines and delegations;
6. Fostering a learning culture within the division through contributing to ongoing professional development to ensure contemporary workplace relations knowledge; and
7. Leading or being involved in major projects.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
8. Demonstrated workplace relations experience within a complex organisation;
9. Proven record in achieving resolution of complex workplace relations issues in a unionised environment;
10. Strong case management expertise in dealing with matters such as mobility of employees, outside policy applications and management of employees;
11. Experience in managing a small team within an industrial relations environment with a proven record of fostering and maintaining a positive work environment;
12. Advanced communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to influence diverse stakeholder groups across all levels;
13. Strong working knowledge of current employment legislation including EBA and policy interpretation; and
14. Resilience, pragmatism, innovation and a passion for continued learning.
Requirements and relevant information:
15. One (1) full-time, fixed-term position (until 6 January 2025), available.
16. This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
