**About the role**

Ventia's Defence Commercial team are seeking an articulate and proactive **Commercial Specialist** for their Defence Base Services (DBS) contract working in Southwest Zone on Operational Services (soft services) related matters for Western Australia (WA) & South Australia (SA).

This is a permanent full-time role predominantly based at Leeuwin Barracks in East Fremantle. Whilst this role is mainly based locally, it involves periodic travel to other defence facilities in WA & SA. Because of this, you may need to stay away from home for short periods of time, therefore flexibility in this regard will be required.

Primarily, you will act as the Southwest Zone first point of contact for the Operational Services (OS) scope of works within the contract, with the role also providing support to the national lead on both operational and strategic matters. Therefore, this is an excellent role for anybody looking to develop, upskill and increase future career prospects. Furthermore, you will be responsible for the preparation of zone-specific OS Contract Change Proposals (CCP's), which include the provision of estimating, scoping and providing contractual and Operational Services commercial advice.

**About you**

Reporting directly into the Commercial Operations Manager for Operational Services, you are naturally a methodical individual who focuses on the bigger picture and can effectively plan, identify and prioritise problems and issues, generate solutions and work collaboratively to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. You have outstanding prioritising and time-management capabilities, a high degree of motivation, energy and initiative, with the capacity to deal with multiple and often conflicting priorities.

**In addition to the above duties, but not limited to**:

- Ensure contractual commitments are met by their due dates and ongoing contract compliance
- Cultivate positive, proactive and highly communicative working relationships with key internal business stakeholders
- Work closely with Project Support Services (PSS) to prepare for pipeline of new project related CCP's and to complete all outstanding legacy project related CCP's
- Provide accurate and timely inputs to consolidated reporting on key OS focused metrics
- Engage with procurement / subcontracts in relation to downstream OS requirements
- Participate in development and delivery of team training materials
- Other tasks as required from time to time

**Skills and experience**:

- Significant experience in a contract or commercial management role with a thorough grasp of commercial contracts
- Understanding, knowledge and experience with the various contract OS scopes of work or demonstrated ability to acquire these skills
- Knowledge of the Defence contracting environment highly regarded
- Demonstrated experience with contract administration
- Commercial acumen, problem solving, analytical and conceptual thinking skills with the ability to analyse and interpret data for independent decision making
- Ability to work through complex commercial issues and recommend a course of action
- Personal drive and integrity along with a commitment to work collaboratively within a team, upholding shared values while being prepared to engage with risk
- Demonstrated ability to self-manage and prioritise workloads with sound project management skills including using initiative, problem solving and meeting objectives
- Outstanding stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to collaborate and engage with people from various levels of the business
- Competent in the use of MS Office suite, exposure to SAP system is advantageous

**Other special conditions**

The incumbent to this position must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance up to a level of negative vetting 1. As a result of this requirement the incumbent must be an Australian Citizen.

This position requires a National Criminal History check and a valid Australian driver's licence.
