Join our energetic Business Banking (BB) Chief Controls Office (CCO) team and play a crucial role in enhancing the banking experience for Australian businesses.
BB serves the banking needs of Australian businesses. As part of the BB CCO Small Business Banking (SBB) Line 1 Risk team, you will support the distribution of Business Banking and Retail Banking products via our channels. SBB is responsible for managing customers with <$3m turnover and <$1.25m aggregated credit facilities. SBB is also responsible for a variety of channels and services that serve customers across all BB segments, including Business Home Lending Specialists and Broker, Agency & Specialist Sales.
About the Team
SBB Line 1 Risk & Control Advisory & Delivery team is responsible for providing end to end risk and control advisory and delivery service. The team executes and supports embedment of risk management activities in alignment with the operational risk and compliance frameworks, such as designing and implementing controls. Additionally, ensuring each BU LT has the right level of oversight and governance.
About the Role
In this role you will work directly with two General Managers that lead the Broker Agency & Business Home Loan Specialist Sales team and the Business Performance team. You will collaborate with other Senior Managers in the SBB Line 1 Risk team, as well as more broadly across the BB CCO and Line 2 Risk community. The role reports to the Executive Manager and leads a team of two Managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively engage with the General Managers to build a strong risk culture, understand pain points and blockers, and influence policies and processes across the Group. Your efforts will help create a safer and more efficient banking environment for our customers.
- Design, implement, and harmonise risk controls across Small Business Banking, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
- Lead the identification, escalation, and remediation of issues and incidents, providing strategic solutions and timely updates to senior management.
- Advise on regulatory matters (e.g., Conflicted Remuneration, CPS 511), ensuring business units meet all compliance requirements.
- Engage with stakeholders at all levels, including General Managers, Legal, Compliance, and IT, to resolve queries and drive projects forward.
- Champion continuous improvement, identifying opportunities for process uplift, automation, and strategic solutions.
- Offer ad-hoc risk advice as needed. Your expertise will guide the business in making informed decisions that positively impact customer satisfaction and business performance.
What You’ll Bring

- Extensive experience in risk management, operational risk, or compliance within banking or financial services.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Proven ability to design and implement controls, manage issues, and drive regulatory compliance.
- Analytical mindset, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- A keen interest in leveraging AI technologies to enhance efficiency and improve risk management outcomes. For example, supporting the development of Microsoft 365 Agents.
- Knowledge of Home Lending and Brokers would be advantageous
