Competency frameworks your organisation defines, assessed and credentialled at scale.The Role As the Head of Engineering, you are responsible for helping the COO shape the technical strategy for the business — informed by the expertise of your engineering team. You are then accountable for ensuring the team delivers.In close partnership with the Head of Product, you make sure the product vision and engineering delivery and strategy stay aligned. When they drift, you close the gap.Equally important is how you lead your engineering team doing the work. You actively coach and mentor your team, you invest in their growth, and know how to bring out the best in high performers. You build trust, give feedback that actually lands, and create the conditions where engineers do their best work.You'll lead approximately 12 engineering team members across Australia and New Zealand in a hybrid and mostly remote environment, with indirect coaching of around 5 engineering team members globally.What we're looking for Scale-up experience is non-negotiable. You've lived through genuine growth, understood the trade-offs, navigated the growing pains, even have some battle scars and know what good looks like on the other side. That experience shapes how you lead and how you make decisions.While we have the pace and ambition of a scale-up, we're not starting from scratch. Our processes and functions are well-established, and we're actively spearheading an AI culture of excellence across the business — from how we work day-to-day internally to how we're embedding AI directly into our products. We're looking for someone who has proven experience within AI on 1) operational efficiencies – how the work gets done and 2) AI within our actual products.You're technically credible without being in the weeds. You don't write code day-to-day, but you can hold your own in any architecture conversation, coach engineers through solution design, and challenge assumptions that need challenging.You know how to build trust, give feedback that actually lands, have tough conversations when required and create the conditions where engineers do their best work.You operate with a high degree of autonomy. You identify the problems, build the plan, and drive the outcome.Who you are You communicate clearly and are driven by data. You are used to working at the Senior Leadership level and care more about team success than personal credit, whether that be for your Engineering team or across the Senior Leadership Team. You disagree when it matters and commit once decisions are made.
