A large, privately owned Australian business with an international footprint is seeking a Technical Lead - eCommerce to own and evolve a modern, multi-brand eCommerce experience layer. This is a hands-on coach role where you'll guide a small team, strengthen platform stability, and drive continuous improvement across a composable stack.
What you'll lead and deliver
Frontend architecture & platform ownership
* Own and evolve a Next.js frontend codebase and experience-layer architecture
* Build and maintain a reusable component library and scalable content patterns
* Define reliable integrations with commerce APIs, search, and an integration/service layer
* Drive performance (Core Web Vitals), security, observability, and operational readiness
* Set engineering standards, documentation, and practices for long-term platform health
* Improve what's in place disciplined iteration over unnecessary rewrites
* Lead and mentor a small offshore engineering team
* Run technical planning, code reviews, pairing, and quality practices
* Take ownership of complex technical challenges and unblock delivery
* Collaborate with UI/UX, backend and integration teams to ship clean, reusable architecture
* Champion disciplined delivery, QA, and stable release practices
Operational excellence
* Implement monitoring, logging and alerting for a reliable frontend experience
* Improve release maturity: feature flags, controlled rollouts, rollback strategies
* Maintain a tech-debt register and refactor roadmap, balancing delivery and stability
* Lead post-incident reviews to prevent repeat issues and improve resilience
What we're looking for
* Deep experience with Next.js, React, TypeScript
* Strong understanding of composable/headless architectures
* Experience with a headless CMS (e.g., Builder.io or similar) and a commerce platform/API (e.g., Commercetools or similar)
* Strong capability in web performance, observability, and CI/CD
* Able to debug and resolve complex integration issues
* Calm, pragmatic leadership style with clear communication and strong technical judgement
