Part time, fixed term opportunity for 12 months Exciting opportunity to work as a Research Fellow with Professor Margaret Sunde within the School of Medical Sciences Base Salary starting at $127,436 pro rata 17% superannuation About the opportunity The School of Medical Sciences is recognised as one of the leading centres for medical science education in the world. Our team of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy across a range of therapeutic areas. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to apply and refine their expertise in research methodologies, design and delivery to contribute to the university’s standing as a national leader in the discipline. The role involves conducting high-quality research independently or as part of a research team, contributing to scholarly outputs, and supporting the development of collaborative research initiatives that deliver research impact. This position will join a multidisciplinary team undertaking molecular and tissue-based research into chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). The successful candidate will be an experienced scientist with a strong background in molecular biology and advanced quantitative data analysis. The role will involve the design and management of research databases, analysis of large and complex clinical and molecular datasets, coordination with multiple research and clinical stakeholders, and preparation and communication of research outputs. Your key responsibilities will be to: conduct original research independently or as part of a team, focusing on publications, conference presentations and securing research funding build and maintain a research profile through peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and conference or seminar papers produced independently or collaboratively develop research collaborations and engage in translational research that results in knowledge or technology transfer leading to commercialisation, improved policy or practice, or benefits to industry, the profession or community contribute significantly to successful applications for competitive research grants or funding to deliver research impact maintain quality, standards and excellence in research activities and outputs provide training, informal mentoring and guidance to lower-level academics and supervise postgraduate research students or projects where appropriate attend and contribute to school, faculty or portfolio meetings contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required. About you PhD in a relevant field demonstrated experience designing and managing research databases (including REDCap) demonstrated high-level proficiency in R (or equivalent statistical coding environment) for analysis of large, complex datasets demonstrated experience working with human research data in a regulated research environment excellent written and verbal scientific communication skills demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary research teams. Highly desirable: prior experience in CTE or neurodegeneration research experience analysing high-dimensional ‘omics datasets.
