Overview
The Lithgow Solid Waste Facility and Resource Recovery Centre operate 7 days per week. The successful candidate will report to the Site Supervisor and be responsible for the operation of site plant and equipment and to provide an effective landfill and resource recovery service to the community. Duties include customer service, load inspection and resource recovery activities. This position will work within and contribute to a multi-skilled team that promotes council’s service image by providing courteous, responsive and effective customer service.
The role is based in Lithgow, NSW, and weekend work is required.
Responsibilities
- Operate site plant and equipment including, but not limited to, waste compactor, track loader, wheeled loader, excavator and water cart
- Screen customers and loads to ensure only authorised waste is delivered and charges are correct
- Identify asbestos containing materials through visual inspection or testing with supplied equipment
- Direct traffic to appropriate areas of the site based on load type
- Separate recoverable materials into stockpiles and manage stockpiles safely and effectively
- Site housekeeping including litter collection and keeping resource recovery areas tidy
- Follow safe operating procedures and report unsafe plant, equipment or practices
- Maintain basic service, site inspection and other records as directed
- Undertake minor maintenance and care of plant and equipment
- Undertake relief work where required at the gatehouse
- Provide efficient and effective customer service

Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in landfill and resource recovery operations or similar
- Competency in operating heavy plant including waste compactor, track loader, wheeled loader, excavator or similar
- Current Class C Drivers Licence
- Sound communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service
- Willingness to undertake additional training
- Demonstrated understanding of Work Health & Safety and Risk Management responsibilities
- Demonstrated commitment to honesty and integrity
- Sense of civic pride/environmental stewardship
In Addition, An Ideal Candidate Would Have
- Class HR drivers Licence
- Asbestos awareness training
- Understanding of environmental issues and the role of a waste facility within the community
- First Aid certificate
Salary and Benefits
- Between $1,237.47 and $1,359.72 per week, commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. Weekend penalties are additional.
- Permanent, full-time, 38 hours per week
