Who we are
With a rich history dating back to 1814, the heritage building on the corner of Argyle and Macquarie has been a cornerstone of the Hobart community for generations. Its role has evolved from the city\'s first post office into a beloved pub. Our commitment is to respect the heritage of this pub and uphold its legacy as a welcoming gathering place for all. Our ethos focuses on a curated food and beverage offering that caters to traditional and diverse tastes at affordable prices. Our menu and bar feature local produce sourced through ongoing collaborations with supply partners, bringing you the best in contemporary modern Australian pub fare.
The positions
We are looking for a motivated and experienced Front of House staff member with a passion for great food, wine and people, delivering an amazing customer experience—the essence of hospitality. The right candidate is outgoing, charismatic with plenty of personality, has excellent communication skills and a passion for customer service and Tasmania\'s incredible produce and culture.
What you\'ll get to do
- Create a positive guest experience and deliver a high level of service
- Lead and mentor the team to create “WOW” moments in service
- Show genuine interest in local produce and local events
- Ensure efficient restaurant operation
- Manage bookings and balance seat capacity
- Daily booking management and reconciliation
- Lead, train and mentor the team
- Implement strategies to resolve adverse trends and improve sales
What you need
- Experience in the restaurant or bar industry, ideally within Tasmania
- RSA is essential; a food handling certificate is preferred
- Excellent communication and team leadership skills
- Outstanding service focus
- Strong knowledge of food and wine, particularly local Tasmanian produce
The pub will be opening in September. You will receive extensive training on our wine list, menu and operations prior to opening. Service will be lunch and dinner with typical shifts around 6 hours. The property will be open most days midday to 10pm, Thursday to Saturday until midnight, and Sunday is lunch service only. These times are approximate and may change with the pub\'s requirements.
We are also looking for Supervisors, Bar Manager, Restaurant Manager and Kitchen staff, including:
- Sous Chef
- Chef de Partie
- Commis Chef
