This role offers a rare opportunity to live and work in a remote Aboriginal community and make a genuine, lasting impact through the delivery of essential services and community focused events.
About the Role
Reporting to the Executive Manager Community Services, the Manager Community Services and Events is responsible for leading a diverse portfolio including Women's Services, Community Services related events, radio, and the Services Australia Remote Agent Site. You will provide strong leadership, ensure culturally appropriate service delivery and work closely with community, government and local stakeholders to support wellbeing and empowerment across Kowanyama.
This position is based in Kowanyama.
Responsibilities
* Lead and oversee the delivery of women's services and community services related events in line with community needs and Council priorities.
* Develop and implement strategic and operational plans aligned to Council's corporate plan, funding agreements and compliance requirements.
* Manage budgets, grants, monitoring and reporting to ensure services operate effectively and within approved resources.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, Elders, government agencies and key stakeholders.
* Provide strong people leadership, mentoring staff and modelling professional and culturally respectful behaviour.
Skills and Experience Required
* Relevant qualifications in community services, social work, management or a related discipline or equivalent experience.
* Demonstrated experience leading teams across multiple community service or program areas.
* Proven capability in planning and delivering community-based programs or small to medium scale events.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including reporting and stakeholder engagement.
* Sound understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, with experience working in remote or Aboriginal communities highly regarded.
