We are seeking an experienced National Manager to provide strategic and operational oversight of our health, safety, wellbeing and environment streams and drive frameworks and initiatives across all these areas in line with our organisation's strategic direction.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) this role can be based at one of our major ports in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne.
What does a typical day look like?
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the health, safety, wellbeing and environment streams to ensure innovative and best practice procedures, frameworks, policies and programs are in place across the organisation to minimise risk and develop and build our safety culture and enhance environmental performance.
What are your responsibilities?
* Model best practice health and safety leadership by ensuring specialist and pragmatic advice, practical guidance and support is available to the Executive Team, Managers and Frontline Supervisors.
* Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements, including legislation, national and international standards and codes of practice.
* Ensure we maintain the highest possible health and safety accreditations.
* Lead, mentor, and develop the national Safety and Compliance team, fostering a high-performance culture.
* Provide support and work with managers and WHS Committee representatives to ensure compliance with relevant legislation relating to respective areas, such as manual handling, noise, prevention of falls, etc.
* Manage a programme of health and safety audits, that includes scheduled and ‘unscheduled’ audits, across sites reviewing against the requirements of legislation, company guidelines and safety management plans.
* Working with the National Security Compliance Manager, develop and implement long term strategies to ensure regulatory compliance with ABF/AFP, Aviation Security, and other industry requirements across all regions.
* Oversee the identification and mitigation of hazards, the reporting and investigation of incidents and monitor the implementation of actions arising from investigations
* Oversee the review of all high consequence events including the injury management, restoring control of the site, scoping the investigation, reviewing the investigation and organising audit of improvement controls
* Maintain oversight of the Safety Management System (SMS) in line with Global requirements, ensuring that business unit and site management are coached and mentored in the implementation and delivery of desired results.
* Develop and implement environmental strategies, policies, practices and action plans to ensure corporate sustainable development.
* Consistently model dnata’s catering values: safety and security, performance driven, delighting customers, imagination, respect and service excellence.
* Lead the Wellbeing function in support of injury prevention, management and rehabilitation programmes to promote employee health and wellbeing
* Develop and implement best practice wellbeing initiatives and support the business to ensure such initiatives align with and deliver on strategic plans
* Coordinate the local approach to environmental strategies, policies, practices and action plans to ensure corporate sustainable development
* Audit, analyse and report environmental performance nationally to our Head Office
* Carry out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce the organisation's environmental risks and financial costs
* Identify opportunities to implement carbon reduction measures across our operations and report on international environmental disclosures
* Build strong working relationships with all key stakeholders, contractors, suppliers and employees and drive step change in dnata catering & retail’s performance

What Do I Need to be Successful in this role?
* At least 15 years of experience in HSE roles, with minimum of 5 in senior leadership
* WHS - Formal qualifications are essential
* Ability to lead and mentor a group of HSE professionals based around Australia
* Demonstrated working knowledge of occupational health and safety management and an understanding of the underlying principles.
* The ability to conduct research, investigate and analyse complex issues and engage with key stakeholders to identify course of action or changes
* Well-developed report writing and research skills
* Demonstrated skills and achievements in project management
* Experience in working with a diverse group of stakeholders
* Displays business and industry acumen understanding
* Competent in documentation and records management using the MS Office Suite
* Strong communication and influencing skills
* Membership of the AIHS as a signatory to its code of ethics, will be highly regarded
* Certification as an OHS practitioner/professional will be highly regarded
* Understanding of environmental metrics and experience in reporting sustainability disclosures such as carbon accounting (GHG Protocol), GRI, CDP, and UN SDGs
