About the Role
We are seeking a Chemistry Technician to support hazardous waste treatment processes, apply chemical expertise, and ensure safe and compliant operations. This role plays a vital part in monitoring, refining, and executing chemical processes such as neutralisation, oxidation and reduction.
You will ensure that all end-to-end hazardous waste management processes meet regulatory requirements, safety standards, and internal SOPs.
Key Responsibilities
Position-Specific Duties
* Ensure compliance with all site licences, regulatory obligations, and hazardous waste requirements.
* Conduct chemical tests to identify composition, reactivity, and treatment pathways for incoming waste streams (acids, alkalis, flammables, organics).
* Implement and monitor quality control procedures for waste handling and chemical treatment.
* Conduct verification checks on materials, containers, labelling, and segregation.
* Oversee hazardous liquid transfers and ensure strict adherence to SOPs.
* Assist with fabrication, installation, and modification of equipment as required.
* Provide guidance and training to operators on chemical safety and treatment methodologies.
* Support the Manager in reviewing and improving waste treatment processes.

Qualifications
* Diploma in Chemistry OR at least 3 years' experience in a chemical environment
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Problem-solving and decision-making capability
* Solid OHS knowledge, particularly in chemical environments
Preferred
* Experience handling hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals
* Warehouse or storage experience involving chemical products
Levels of Authority
Ability to commence, modify, or suspend hazardous waste handling processes to ensure compliance with legislation, OHS, and licensing conditions.

* Zero non-compliance incidents with licence conditions
* Full adherence to SOPs and documented processesCost-effective operation of treatment processes
