About Us
M&G Industrial Supplies is a well-established industrial engineering merchant/ shop selling metal working machines & all engineering accessories such as metal lathes and milling machines, drill presses, hydraulic presses, metal shaping machines, and many different types of equipment. We also have a small fitting and machining workshop, specialising in small to medium machining jobs, repairing and making shafts up to 2-1/2" [65.0 mm] diameter, as well as helping build solutions for custom projects. We pride ourselves on delivering both high-quality customer service and mechanical solutions.
The Role
We are looking for a qualified and motivated Fitter and Turner to join our workshop team. This is a hands-on multi-faceted, workshop-based role involving repair, maintenance, and light manufacturing.
Our small workshop is only part of the position, accounting for possibly 2 days a week. The remaining time will be spent:
· Training for and engaging in engineering product sales,
· Visiting customer workshops to carry out servicing of some fitting and turning machines,
· Learning to become confident in setting up metal cutting bandsaws,
· Occasional assembly and testing of machinery and different types of equipment,
· Aiding in delivery and installation of machinery that is sold, and
· Talking to customers about solutions to their machining needs.
Key Responsibilities:
· Operate manual lathes, milling machines, and drilling equipment to machine precision parts.
· Repair, maintain, and overhaul machinery components, including pumps, gearboxes, and some hydraulic systems.
· Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine required actions.
· Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, verniers) to check for accuracy and fit.
· Adhere strictly to workshop health and safety (WHS) protocols.
What We Are Looking For
· Trade Qualification: Certified Fitter & Turner (or equivalent).
· Experience: 5+ years of experience as a Fitter and Turner in a workshop environment.
· Skills: Proven ability to operate conventional lathe and milling machinery.
· Safety Focus: Strong commitment to working safely in a workshop environment.
· Reliability: Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
