Responsibilities
Assist Myrtle Cottage by picking up and dropping off members to and from our premises and during outings.
Help Transport Coordinator run daily errands such as station pickup/drop and shopping.
Retain an appropriate level of vehicle licence required.
Abide by the Road Transport Act 2013 covering driving regulations and offences – you are responsible for any fines received whilst driving.
Follow NSW Government Passengers Transport Regulation 2017 and do not carry additional members exceeding the vehicle's legal carrying capacity.
Follow directions on the Transport Run Sheet and seek clarification where required.
Refer all changes to transport runs, pickup order, use of hoist and members requests to the Transport Coordinator.
Do not divert from the usual run without approval from the Transport Coordinator.
Welcome members by assisting them to and from the vehicle, including operating the wheelchair hoist.
Secure wheelchair restraint systems consistent with operational guidelines.
Ensure loose items such as walkers, wheelchairs and trolleys are secured with appropriate restraints available in the vehicle.
Where necessary, ensure that a Bus Assistant is in attendance before departing for transport runs or outings. (The bus assistant role is to assist the bus driver by helping members onto and off the vehicle in a safe manner during transportation).
Follow Myrtle Cottage Group Policies and Procedures.
Qualifications
* Valid vehicle licence at the appropriate level.
* Knowledge of the Road Transport Act 2013 and NSW Government Passengers Transport Regulation 2017.
* Experience with wheelchair hoist operations and securing restraints.
* Ability to follow transport run sheets and communicate with the Transport Coordinator.
* Commitment to safety, confidentiality and adherence to group policies.
