The Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA) delivers the Victorian Government's multi-billion-dollar health capital program. VHBA is responsible for the planning, delivery and oversight of world-class health facilities, including public hospitals, emergency care, mental health services, community health facilities and aged care infrastructure, supporting better health outcomes for all Victorians.
The Opportunity
This Managing Principal Lawyer is a senior leadership role within VIDA Health's Infrastructure Legal team, responsible for providing authoritative, outcomes-focused legal advice across VIDA Health's construction and infrastructure portfolio.
Working across the full lifecycle of major health projects, you will influence front-end procurement and contracting strategies, advise on complex delivery phase issues including claims and disputes, and support senior decision-making across government. You will lead and develop a team of lawyers, manage external legal advisors, and play a key role in identifying and managing legal risk across multiple concurrent projects.
This role suits an accomplished construction and infrastructure lawyer who combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership capability and a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach.
Key aspects of the role include:
* Providing expert legal advice on procurement, project development, delivery, construction contracting, claims and disputes for large-scale infrastructure projects.
* Leading, supervising and developing legal team members, ensuring high-quality advice, effective resource management and professional growth.
* Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex, high-value construction and procurement contracts.
* Identifying, mitigating and managing legal and commercial risks across multiple projects and programs.
* Managing external legal, transactional and probity advisors to ensure consistent, cost-effective support.
* Partnering closely with project directors, commercial teams, procurement specialists and senior stakeholders to support best-for-project outcomes.
We are looking for:
* A senior construction and infrastructure lawyer with extensive experience advising on complex public and private sector projects (PPP experience highly regarded).
* Proven experience leading and developing legal teams in commercially complex environments.
* Strong expertise across tendering, contract negotiation, project delivery and dispute management.
* Sound commercial judgement with the ability to balance risk, compliance and delivery outcomes.
* A credible, influential communicator able to engage senior executives and government stakeholders.
