Job Title: Senior Ranger
The Senior Ranger will be responsible for leading and managing pest management and island biosecurity programs across the Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks region.
* Develop and implement regional pest management strategies, working closely with Traditional Owners, landholders, government agencies, industry, community groups and park users to achieve conservation outcomes.
* Provide technical guidance and support to operational rangers, ensuring best-practice pest, weed and biosecurity management, and linking field operations with technical specialists.
* Build strong partnerships and stakeholder relationships to support conservation efforts, including emergency response, compliance, incident management and recovery planning.
* Oversee regional planning, resource allocation and infrastructure programs, contributing to recreational asset development, fire and wildlife management, capital works and broader agency initiatives.
* Lead and manage a team of operational rangers, providing training and support to ensure effective operational delivery across remote and varied environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Pest Management: Lead regional pest management programs, developing and implementing strategies to protect natural, cultural and visitor values.
* Biosecurity: Manage and coordinate island biosecurity programs, working closely with stakeholders to prevent the introduction and spread of pests and diseases.
* Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response plans, providing leadership and coordination during crisis situations.
* Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of operational rangers, providing training and support to ensure effective operational delivery.
Qualifications and Skills
* Relevant qualifications in a field such as biology, ecology, or environmental science.
* Proven experience in pest management and biosecurity, preferably in a similar role.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build and maintain partnerships and stakeholder relationships.
* Ability to work in a remote and varied environment, with flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances.
