Get Practical Experience in Civil and Structural Engineering
The Civil/Structural Engineering Internship Program includes a 12-week placement designed to give you hands-on experience aligned with your academic background and future career goals.
Why Do the Internship Program?
* Apply your academic knowledge
Work on real engineering tasks and projects in a professional Australian workplace, applying the theory and concepts you’ve learned during your degree.
* Develop key skills
Build both technical and soft skills, such as problem-solving, teamwork, and professional communication, as you contribute to your host company’s engineering work.
* Gain insight into the industry
See how engineering concepts are applied in practice. Depending on your host company, you may be involved in areas such as project management, sustainability, design coordination, or site assessments.
Who Can Apply?
* Current university students in Australia
If you're studying civil or structural engineering at an Australian university or college and need academic credit or relevant work experience, this program is for you, whether you’re a local or international student.
* Recent graduates and students without a required internship
If your degree didn’t include an internship, or you’ve already graduated, you can still take part in the program through an accredited Work Integrated Learning (WIL) option.
Tailored Internship Placement
Your 12-week placement will be tailored to match your goals, study background, availability, and preferred location. Example host companies include:
* A construction company with more than 25 years of infrastructure project experience
* A utility engineering business providing specialised civil and electrical services
* A civil engineering consultancy involved in urban development and large-scale planning
Example Tasks You May Work On
Your internship responsibilities will depend on your host company, but may include:
* Preparing technical drawings using CAD, GIS, or similar software
