Overview
The Ruby Developer will work with the team to extend an existing Rails application to support entry and updating of additional data types. We are looking for an experienced Rails/Ruby developer with excellent teamwork skills, to work full/part time (0.6 FTE minimum), onsite at the Australian National Botanic Gardens (Canberra), online/remote, or hybrid.
Responsibilities
- Extend an existing Rails application to support entry and updating of additional data types.
- Collaborate with a small team to deliver high-quality, data-entry interfaces.
- Work onsite in Canberra, or remotely/hybrid as allowed by the engagement.
- Provide own workstation/laptop and development setting that integrates with current NSL practices.
Resourcing
- Contract start 05 February 2024 for 5 months, with potential 6-month extensions.
- Eligibility to work in Australia; offsite role options available.
Experience and Selection
- Demonstrated experience with one or more similar Rails/Ruby projects. Provide a summary of at least one previous project describing objective, role, and outcomes, with links to project results (website) and, if possible, a code repository.
- Address selection criteria in the application:
- 1. Demonstrated experience developing high-quality online interfaces for data entry and updates using the Rails framework.
- 2. Technical skills including some or all of: Rails, Ruby, PostgreSQL, jQuery, Bootstrap, Minitest, Git, AWS hosting, Jenkins.
- 3. Ability to work productively in a small team; strong communication skills.
- 4. Experience or interest in working with biological taxonomy data, including names published under ICN and ICZN, is advantageous.
