About the Role
We have a rare and exciting opportunity to join City of Ryde Libraries as the Supervisor Librarian – West Ryde Library. The library is recently refurbished and houses STEM installations. It is located in a busy shopping and transport precinct and offers a Library of Things, an external Book Locker and a comprehensive range of programs throughout its seven‐day operation.
The purpose of this role is to deliver a consistent and responsive library service that meets the community's needs and to provide leadership and operational management of the branch. The Supervisor will support the Team Leader in all aspects of service delivery, program delivery and team coordination.
The position is full time, 35 hours per week, working Monday to Friday including evening and rostered weekend work. Library staff are required to wear a uniform which will be provided. Commencing salary is negotiable in the range of $83,182.07 to $90,919.94 per year plus superannuation, depending on experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist and support the branch Team Leader by providing leadership and guidance with relation to day‐to‐day branch operations, including staffing, team coordination, customer service and presentation of the facility.
* Lead and supervise the lending services function of the library and co‐ordinate the rostering of staff.
* Establish, foster and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
* Supervise the service desk and customer experience to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and seek assistance from specialist library staff as required.
* Support the day‐to‐day operation of all branch technologies, including troubleshooting, reporting and the appropriate development of skills for staff.
* Act as team leader when required.
* Provide direct supervision and performance management to three part‐time staff.
* Proactively identify and meet community needs, ensuring that the collection, services and programs target current and emerging needs particularly in the area of STEM education and technology.
Essential Criteria
* Completion of a degree or postgraduate diploma recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) or a discipline relatable to the duties of the position and/or a degree‐level qualification in a related area with significant public library experience.
* Current Working with Children check.
* Class C driver's licence.
* Experience in the delivery of a high level public library and information service in a cross‐cultural customer service environment.
* Proven supervisory experience (minimum two years) in a public library or similar customer‐focused workplace, including the supervision and performance management of staff.
* Proven high level communication and interpersonal skills including procedure development, problem solving, negotiation and effective complaints handling skills and experience.
* Experience in process improvement and leading/implementing change.
* Understanding of current issues and trends in the library industry.
* Knowledge of EEO principles, Privacy and Information Act.
