Job summary
The Catering Chef will be responsible for planning, preparing, and overseeing large-scale food service for events, ensuring high standards of food quality, safety, and presentation. This role combines culinary expertise with robust management skills to deliver seamless catering experiences for weddings, corporate functions, and special occasions.
Key Responsibilities 
- Menu Planning
- Design menus to suit event requirements, client preferences, and dietary needs.
- Adjust recipes and meal plans according to event themes and budgets.
- Food Preparation & Cooking
- Prepare, season, and cook large quantities of food including appetisers, main courses, and desserts.
- Ensure consistency in taste, portion size, and presentation across all dishes.
- Kitchen & Staff Management
- Supervise, train, and schedule kitchen staff to ensure efficient workflows.
- Allocate tasks, monitor performance, and maintain high standards of productivity.
- Food Safety & Sanitation
- Implement and monitor food handling practices in compliance with health regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of all kitchen areas and equipment.
- Inventory & Budgeting
- Order and manage stock, ensuring adequate supplies for upcoming events.
- Control food costs and reduce wastage while adhering to budget targets.
- Event & Service Coordination
- Liaise with event organisers and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth food service.
- Conduct site visits to evaluate facilities and plan catering logistics.
- Vendor & Supplier Management
- Build and maintain relationships with food suppliers and equipment rental vendors.
- Negotiate pricing and ensure timely deliveries.
Skills & Qualifications 
- Formal Culinary Training: Certificate or Diploma in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent).
- Proven Experience: Demonstrated background as a chef in catering, banquets, or high-volume food service.
- Leadership Skills: Strong ability to manage, motivate, and train kitchen staff.
- Organisational Ability: Skilled in planning and managing multiple events simultaneously.
- Food Safety Knowledge: In-depth understanding of food safety laws and sanitation standards.
- Adaptability: Ability to perform under pressure and adjust quickly to event requirements.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication for liaising with clients, vendors, and teams.
