Work Health and Safety Manager – 12-month, full-time, fixed term position – Maternity Leave Cover
Specialised Breeders Australia (SBA) is Australia’s leading layer breeder. We pride ourselves in the quality of our Day Old Chicks and the Australian layer market expects the best from us.
SBA is currently looking for an experienced Work Health and Safety Manager to cover the current role during the absence of our WHS Manager whilst on maternity leave. This role will be a 12-month full-time, fixed term contract, based at the Head Office in Huntly .
You will have the opportunity to build on SBA’s strong safety foundations with your knowledge and experience across general safety management, environmental safety, and Workers’ Compensation. This role is also responsible for the company’s Return-to-Work program.
The role operates autonomously and reports to the CEO. It is expected you will have a visible presence on our poultry farms and hatchery sites and manage your office time accordingly. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Key role responsibilities include:
Safety management – responsible to drive SBA’s safety culture across teams and sites.
Technical knowledge – maintain and develop high level safety knowledge, including legislation and regulations, and manage the company’s health, safety and environment risk profile.
System management – provide an effective safety system that enables safe and practical work practices that are compliant with relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice in force from time to time.
Injury management – manage the company’s Return-to-Work program and drive safe work practices that reduce and eliminate injuries in the workplace.
Skills and attributes required for the role include strong:
• Communication, instruction and negotiation skills.
• Research, analytical thinking and attention to detail.
• Planning and organisational skills.
• Writing ability for safety documentation and reporting.
• Proficiency in the Office suite and safety management platforms.
• Injury management experience.
Qualifications:
• Formal health and safety qualifications at diploma level or higher or equivalent senior experience.
• Cert IV in Workplace Training and Assessment is highly desirable.
General requirements to work for SBA:
• Hold and keep an Australian driver’s licence.
• Our biosecurity requirements mean our employees cannot keep birds or pigs at their place of residence or live with household members who work in the poultry or piggery industries.
• Complete a satisfactory pre-employment medical.
