Company Description
Thornton Engineering is a proud, family-owned Australian company established in 1975, delivering high-quality steel fabrication for some of the nation’s largest infrastructure projects. Today, we’re not just a fabrication business — we are a growing multi-company group with strong market presence, a reputation for innovation, and exciting growth plans ahead.
We are seeking an ambitious, driven, and commercially astute Chief Financial Officer to join our leadership team and help propel us into the future.
Job Description
This is a unique opportunity to step into a key leadership position in a business with a solid finance team already in place. You’ll work alongside the CEO, Board, and senior management to shape and execute the financial and commercial strategy for our group, while also identifying opportunities for growth and investment — whether that’s expanding business units, new acquisitions, or strategic land purchases.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership across Finance, Sales & Estimating, Commercials & Projects, and Production.
* Manage funding facilities, working capital, and balance sheet flexibility to position the company for expansion.
* Strengthen financial governance structures and compliance.
* Work closely with Project Managers, Estimators, and General Managers to drive profitability and efficiency.
* Contribute to innovation and continuous improvement, leading a capable finance team while mentoring their development.
Qualifications
* You’re more than a numbers person. You’re energised, motivated, and commercially savvy, with the ability to translate financial insights into real business growth.
* A strong background in senior finance leadership roles, ideally in complex, multi-entity businesses.
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics (CPA or MBA highly regarded).
* Proven record in driving profitability, managing funding, and implementing sound financial governance.
* Ambition to be a true business partner — influencing, advising, and steering strategy across the group.
