What Your Role Will Look Like
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the National Workplace Health & Safety Manager will contribute to business success by leading, designing and implementing the continuous improvement of workplace health & safety practices across the Stone Axe sites nationally. The role will be pivotal in fostering a proactive safety culture ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and supporting operational leaders to embed WHS into everyday practices.
This position can be based from the New England region in New South Wales, or Brisbane, Queensland.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for the WHS function, including analysis, direction, and advisory services to managers and the Board;
- Promote a proactive health and safety culture focused on injury prevention, risk management, and consistent understanding of WHS responsibilities at all levels;
- Ensure compliance with WHS legislation while striving for best practice and collaborating on workers’ compensation and return-to-work programs;
- Develop, implement, and oversee WHS systems and processes aligned with governance and quality standards;
- Monitor, measure, and report on WHS performance and key indicators to strengthen organisational safety culture;
- Lead by example with a safety-first approach, supporting capability development within the WHS team and across the business.
What You Bring
- Extensive experience in workplace health and safety leadership, ideally within the beef, meat processing, agriculture, or FMCG industries;
- Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, standards, and codes of practice;
- Demonstrated experience leading WHS programs across multiple sites and a proven track record in risk management, compliance, and incident investigation;
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage both executives and frontline staff;
- Willingness to travel regularly across Australia to Stone Axe sites;
- Minimum Cert IV in Work Health & Safety (Diploma or higher preferred); and
- Additional qualifications in risk management, auditing, or training highly regarded.
