Working in the South Australian Parliament Research Library
Located in Parliament House on North Terrace, the Parliament Research Library provides an effective, efficient, and professional information service to Members of Parliament and their staff. Members and their staff are treated as separate and specialised entities and staff of the Library are required to deliver specific support and services to those entities in a confidential, trustworthy, reliable, timely and professional manner.
About the role
This role is based within the Library Services section of the Parliamentary Library.
The Library Officer is accountable to the Senior Library Officer - Media Monitoring for the provision of support to all areas of the Library, including responsibility for the Library's mail delivery system, categorisation and distribution of emails to the Media and Cataloguing Services' two core email accounts, accessioning incoming publications, maintenance of selected catalogue records, maintenance of designated media monitoring databases, monthly equipment meter reading submissions and periodical checks, preparation of materials for binding, re-shelving, shelf maintenance and the collection and distribution of Library materials as required.
Your duties will be to:
* Provision of the Library's mail delivery system by collecting, opening, processing, and distributing daily hardcopy mail.
* Categorisation and re-distribution of e-mails to the Library's Media and Cataloguing Service's Outlook email account.
* Maintaining the Library's acquisition system by daily accessioning and processing of hard copy and electronic library materials, maintaining the integrity of respective catalogue records, claiming periodical issues, sourcing, downloading and storage of electronic documents, and ensuring catalogue links to electronic documents are valid and updated, and current hardcopy issues are displayed in the Main Library.
* Assisting with maintaining the media monitoring service (including media releases/TV clipping /radio precis) and updating database records.
* Maintaining the Library's collections by shelving and displaying new periodical issues received, reshelving and carrying out regular shelf and periodical maintenance including labelling, re-labelling, weeding and re-boxing, and identifying any damaged items and advising line manager accordingly.
* Opening the Main Library for Members and Staff to access Reading Room newspapers and periodicals.
* Ensuring photocopier trays are reliably filled with appropriate paper sizes, and monthly photocopier meter readings are taken and recorded.
* Preparing materials for binding and distribution.
* Assisting in the review and maintenance of related Library procedures in line with continuous improvement requirements.
* Assisting other Library staff on service provision matters.
* Ensuring best practice services are delivered to Members and other Parliamentary staff including a high level of confidentiality in dealings with Members, Parliamentary staff, government, and external agencies.
* Providing advice to clients and Library users on matters relating to Library activities, services, and support.
About you
ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA
* Diploma of Library and Information Services (or equivalent ALIA-recognised Library Technician qualification).
* Experience in the use of the Microsoft suite of programs (including Outlook, Teams, Word, OneDrive, and Excel).
DESIRABLE SELECTION CRITERIA
Experience in:
* Processing library materials, including accessioning and managing periodicals and reshelving.
* Data entry in a SharePoint Online environment.
* FIRST LMS.
* Adobe Acrobat.
Ability to:
* Work autonomously under broad guidelines.
* Meet deadlines and respond flexibly to changing work environments and priorities.

Remuneration:
ASO2 $58,709 - $63,154
