Position summary
GCH Gardening service provides essential gardening and home maintenance services to
help older adults and people living with disabilities maintain their independence. This role
plays a vital part in enabling clients to live comfortably and safely in their own homes, while
supporting their autonomy and well-being.
This role provides an exciting opportunity to work outdoors as part of a supportive team while
making a real difference in the lives of people in the community.
Key responsibilities
• Carry out gardening and outdoor maintenance tasks, including lawn mowing, whipper
snipping, weeding of established garden beds, and essential pruning.
* Maintain safe and clear access and egress pathways through properties.
* Perform yard clearance to ensure safe and tidy outdoor spaces.
* Use and maintain gardening tools and equipment safely and effectively.
* Perform minor home maintenance under the direction of GCH maintenance staff
* Provide services in a way that respects clients' dignity, privacy, and preferences.
* Identify and report any changes in client circumstances, safety hazards or
maintenance issues promptly.
* Manage time effectively to complete scheduled work on time.
* Other duties commensurate with current skills and experience as agreed with the
Program Leader, Manager, General Manager or the Chief Executive Officer.

Demonstrated Skills and Experience
• Proven experience in gardening and outdoor maintenance
* Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
* Knowledge of lawn care, including mowing, whipper snipping, and weeding.
* Basic mechanical knowledge for maintaining garden tools (changing oils, filters, mower
blades, etc.).
* Ability to communicate effectively and build rapport with older adults.
* Excellent customer service skills, a positive attitude, and a commitment to providing high-
quality service.
* Ability to work autonomously, quickly, and effectively.
* Flexibility to adapt to changing rosters and work conditions.
* Understanding of the needs of a customer-focused service that empowers client choice.
* Knowledge of the safe and effective use of gardening tools and equipment.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
* Demonstrated knowledge and application of computer software, including Microsoft
Office and Internet
* Demonstrated Ability to contribute to positive workplace culture and practice
Licences and registrations
• Current Victorian driver licence
* Current National police check (less than 3 months old)
* Current Employee Working with Children Check
* NDIS Worker Screening Check
