About the Opportunity
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council manages a diverse network of parks, reserves, sports fields, public gardens, beaches, and natural areas that are vital to the community’s wellbeing and environmental sustainability. As the region continues to grow, the demand for high-quality, well-maintained open spaces is increasing, making effective management and innovation essential.
We are looking for an Open Spaces Operations Manager to lead the operational delivery of Council’s open space services, implement strategic improvements, and inspire a high-performing team to achieve outcomes that meet community, environmental, and organisational expectations.
On a Typical Day This Role Will
* Lead the planning, prioritisation, and delivery of operations across parks, reserves, sports fields, beaches, and natural areas.
* Oversee maintenance programs, monitor budgets, and manage resources to ensure efficient and sustainable service delivery.
* Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance support to staff to build a high-performing, motivated, and innovative team.
* Engage with the community, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality services and projects.
* Monitor compliance with safety, environmental, and Council policies, driving continuous improvement in operational practices.
* Prepare reports, briefings, and updates for senior leadership to support strategic decision-making and operational planning.
To Be Successful In The Role You Will Have
* Tertiary qualifications or extensive experience in horticulture, environment, parks and open space management, or related fields.
* Proven experience in operational management, including planning, budgeting, and resourcing of open space and natural assets.
* Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to engage with staff, contractors, and stakeholders effectively.
* Demonstrated ability to anticipate challenges, assess risks, and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
* Experience managing multiple workstreams, competing priorities, and achieving outcomes on time and to quality standards.
* Knowledge of WHS, environmental legislation, and compliance requirements.
Remuneration And Benefits
Employment Type: Full time, Permanent 35 hours per week
Salary (exclusive of super): Starting in the range of $118,824.59 to $133,001.45 depending on skills and experience
Performance based increase aligned to exceeding goals available after 12 months.
This role also qualifies for a Vehicle allowance.
