About the role

The National Head of Discipline (Midwifery) provides senior academic leadership within the School of Nursing and Midwifery, leading the Discipline of Midwifery in driving strategy, curriculum quality, teaching excellence, and research. The role represents the discipline internally and externally, building strong industry and professional partnerships to ensure programs remain contemporary, high‐impact and nationally and internationally recognised.

Key Responsibilities

* Partner with the Dean and National Head of School (Nursing and Midwifery) to set and deliver the strategic direction and priorities of the Midwifery Discipline in alignment with University objectives.
* Provide strong academic leadership to staff, fostering high‐quality, innovative, and student‐centred learning and teaching across face‐to‐face and online delivery modes.
* Lead, motivate, and engage academic and professional teams to deliver outstanding educational outcomes and contribute to school performance in learning and teaching, research, and professional practice.
* Drive the design, delivery, review, and continuous improvement of midwifery curricula, courses, assessment, and accreditation‐compliant programs.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and quality assurance requirements, leading program reviews and external professional accreditation processes.
* Build and sustain strategic clinical, industry, community, and professional partnerships to enhance clinical education, workforce relevance, and student employability.
* Contribute to and lead research, scholarship, and industry engagement activities that advance midwifery education, professional practice, and the University's research priorities.
* Promote a culture of excellence, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the Midwifery Discipline.

Qualifications, skills & experience

* Doctoral qualification in Midwifery or equivalent standing, with current AHPRA registration as a Midwife.
* Extensive experience in tertiary midwifery education and/or equivalent industry practice, with a proven record of academic leadership and program development.
* Demonstrated academic and professional excellence, with recognition as a leader in the discipline through teaching, research, scholarship, or professional contribution.
* Proven expertise in curriculum design, assessment, and delivery of high‐quality university teaching across face‐to‐face and online environments.
* Strong scholarly profile with in‐depth knowledge of contemporary issues, trends, and challenges in midwifery education, practice, and research.
* Highly developed leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively, build collegial teams, and engage empathetically with students.
* Sound understanding of accreditation, regulatory, and quality assurance requirements for midwifery programs.
* Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, workloads, and deadlines in a complex academic environment.
