About the Role
Kinship care is a type of caregiving provided by relatives or members of a child's broader network when a child cannot live with their parents due to various reasons. This form of care can occur voluntarily or through Child Protection interventions.
The Kinship Care Practitioner will play a crucial role in supporting kinship care families to ensure children's safety, stability, and overall development. Key responsibilities include providing case management for new kinship care placements and long-term statutory kinship placements, developing and reviewing client-centered plans that guide support for children and their families, and assisting kinship carers and extended family members to become self-managed care teams.
The position involves:
* Providing individualized case management services for kinship care families
* Developing and implementing tailored support plans to promote children's well-being and development
* Maintaining close relationships with kinship carers and extended family members to ensure their needs are met
Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must possess:
* A tertiary qualification in community services, psychology, social work, or child welfare
* Demonstrated experience in care coordination or case management within the Best Interests Case Practice Model and risk and needs assessment frameworks
* In-depth knowledge of contemporary child development theories, the impact of childhood trauma, and evidence-based practice
* Understanding of funding body guidelines for Out of Home Care (OOHC) services
