The Unix and Oracle Database will work across the Digital Marketplace and Digital Foundations portfolios with a strong focus on delivering stable, secure and supportable Unix and Oracle database services. The client delivers managed on-premises infrastructure, operating systems and database services, and this lead role ensures those environments are operated in line with agreed service models, technical standards and support expectations.
You will support the development of current state and transition views for Unix and Oracle platforms, validate operational processes through controlled change and patching activities, and oversee the technical delivery of BAU and after hours support. You will work closely with Oracle DBA, Unix, infrastructure, network and customer application teams to ensure database and operating system activities are coordinated, risks are managed, and platform stability is maintained during operational change.
Duties of the role:
* Lead and provide advanced technical system administration in Unix (Oracle Linux, Solaris and/or Red Hat) and Oracle DBA services.
* Provide advice to external and internal customers within agreed customer service levels whilst helping maintain business viability and cost competitiveness
* Provide technical lead in responding to tenders and opportunities and architect and present solutions and proposals to potential customers
* Lead the architecture, design and maintain road maps, and deliver product presentations and proof of concepts to enhance the on-premise offerings
* Present solutions to meet the customer's needs through workshops, demonstrations, proof of concepts, evaluations, benchmarks and other activities.
* Be the lead technician on projects undertaken by the team, including the on-boarding of customers, new architecture solutions research into the applicability of new and emerging technologies.
* Lead, guide, and mentor a team of technical specialists in identifying risks and opportunities for improvement in management infrastructure, tools and procedures.
Skills and experience:
* Demonstrated strong knowledge of Linux/Unix on premises operating environments, particularly Oracle Linux and Red Hat, with exposure to Solaris desirable
* Strong Oracle DBA capability across production and non prod, including OEM monitoring, patching, backup and recovery, performance tuning and SQL based investigation of blocking sessions and slow queries
* Proven skills across Oracle faults including ORA errors, archive lag and connectivity issues, with the ability to work closely with application teams on schema or index changes
* Proven ability to assess and troubleshoot application related issues, including Workbrain, Weblogic, Tomcat, and Apache, apply configuration management and automation tools (eg. Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Terraform), and develop programs and scripts (eg. Perl, Python, Bash)
* Ability to produce architectural diagrams, solution designs, roadmaps and technical documentation to professional standards.
* Experience in transitional architecture ie. modelling current, interim, & target states with clear decision gates.
