Monash University is seeking an exceptional academic leader to serve as Professor and Director of the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (Monash BDI) and Head of the School of Biomedical Sciences. Based at our Clayton campus, this is a rare opportunity to lead one of Australia's largest and most dynamic biomedical research and teaching environments, shaping the future of discovery science and education at a globally recognised institution.

The Monash BDI brings together more than 120 research groups across interdisciplinary programs spanning Infection and Immunity, Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Development and Stem Cells, Metabolism, Neuroscience and related areas. The School of Biomedical Sciences delivers discipline‐based education across biomedical science and contributes extensively to teaching across Monash's health professional programs, supported by world‐class research and teaching infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership aligned with Sub‐Faculty, Faculty and University priorities
* Lead academic planning, resource allocation and operational performance across the BDI and School
* Strengthen research excellence through competitive grant success, interdisciplinary collaboration and high‐impact scholarly output
* Provide leadership in teaching, curriculum development and research training
* Build strong partnerships across Monash, government, industry, clinical networks and international collaborators
* Lead and develop a large and diverse academic community, supporting staff capability, performance and wellbeing
* Manage a significant budget and ensure effective stewardship of resources
About You
You will be a distinguished academic with an international profile in biomedicine or a related discipline, recognised for outstanding scholarly achievement, research leadership and contributions to education. You will bring demonstrated experience leading complex academic units, strong strategic and operational capability, and a collaborative, inclusive leadership style. You will have a clear vision for the future of biomedicine in Australia and globally, and the ability to inspire and lead a large, multidisciplinary community.
Appointment
This is a continuing professorial appointment, with the role of Director, Monash BDI and Head of School appointed for up to five years with the possibility of renewal.
