**ABOUT THE ROLE**

At GCAHAC, our Residential Care Workers work towards creating home environments for children and young people with histories of complex trauma, abuse and neglect.

Our RCW's work to ensure our young people are provided with a sense of family, support, opportunity to heal, engagement in culturally relevant activities, development of life and social skills, and ways to positively connect with others.

We are now looking for _**Casual Residential Care Workers (with up to full-time hours on offer) in the Western Sydney/Nepean and Blue Mountains Region**_ to support children and young people in their journey.

These positions are required to work across _**24/7 rotating rostered shifts**_, including sleepovers, weekends, and public holidays.

**Duties of the successful applicant include**:

- Build and promote a positive and caring environment that supports the children/young people residing in our homes.
- Form and maintain professional, nurturing relationships with children and young people by building trust through visible interest and active engagement
- Maintain safety through effectively implementing Behaviour Support Plans and Individual Crisis Management Plans.
- Work with young people in a manner informed by attachment and trauma-informed care.
- Ensure all essential needs are met for the young person within the home such as providing a balanced diet, prompts with hygiene, support for school engagement, and creating positive life experiences.
- Promote independent living skills including assistance with cooking, meal planning, budgeting, shopping, and maintaining a house and other daily living requirements.
- Demonstrate an empathic understanding of complex trauma, incorporating this understanding into everyday interactions, as well as responding to pain-based behaviour in a sensitive and non-punitive way.
- Mentor and coach children/young people to assist them to achieve their goals.
- Act as an appropriate adult role model, seeking to engage young people in purposeful activities aimed at developing life skills and self-worth
- Assist and support children/young people to develop links and build their capacity to be part of their community.

**The successful applicant/s will have the following**:

- An understanding of the impacts of intergenerational trauma and the effects this has on Aboriginal persons and their families.
- Completed, or working towards a minimum Certificate IV qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. Youth Work, Social Work, Social Science, Counselling) is essential.
- Current HLTAID003 Provide First Aid Certificate or equivalent is essential.
- National Criminal History Check (applied for within the last 12 months)
- Valid unrestricted Australian driver's license and reliable vehicle
- Current Working with Children Check

**Desirable Criteria**
- _Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent_
- Current NDIS Workers' Screening clearance check
- Experience in working with young people with complex trauma is ideal.
- Experience in developing case plans/safety plans/behaviour support plans, case noting, and report writing is desirable.
- **Note - Aboriginality is a genuine occupational requirement and falls within the exceptions set out in section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW)**_
