Position Details:

* Location: Darwin
* Employment Type: Permanent Full-time
* Excellent Remuneration: $90k + 12% super + salary packaging + 5 weeks annual leave
* Reports To: Employment Services Program Manager
* Hours: Normal business hours, with occasional additional hours as required to meet business needs, including some out-of-hours flexibility when necessary
* Travel: Travel to regional locations where Saltbush operates may be required and will be planned in advance with mutual agreement

The Role: As a Program Trainer, working within the Indigenous Skills and Employment Program, you will play a vital role in supporting and empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants to build confidence, identify strengths, and transition toward meaningful, sustainable employment. This role goes beyond facilitation and content delivery. You will work as a trainer, role model, and trusted guide, while also developing resources and materials for delivery and creating culturally safe learning spaces where story, identity, and capability are central.

Working closely with the ISEP team, you will design, develop and deliver hands-on, place-based, and strengths-focused sessions across three 20-week programs annually. Your focus will be to foster life and work-readiness skills through practical, relational, and culturally grounded engagement — both on-site and off-site, adapting content and deliverymethods to meet diverse learning needs

Your Journey with Us:

To ensure success in your role as a Program Trainer/Facilitator, you will:

Session Delivery & Facilitation

* Facilitate culturally responsive, strengths-based learning sessions using structured yet flexible frameworks and developed resources.
* Adapt delivery approaches to meet a wide range of learning needs, including low LLN, trauma-affected, and disengaged from learning.
* Create inclusive, culturally safe environments that encourage active participation, self-discovery and confidence building.
* Incorporate the use of yarning circles, storytelling, visual aids, and local context to make learning practical and meaningful.
* Respond to shifts in group energy and dynamics in real time, maintaining psychological and cultural safety through delivery.

Program & Content Development

* Design and continuously refine scaffolded workshop programs that build confidence and personal development through to employer expectations and workplace readiness.
* Develop high-quality session plans, facilitation guides, and learner materials for both digital and paper-based delivery.
* Embed trauma-informed, learner-centred principles and employer-focused preparation into session design.
* Support employer-focused workshops that promote inclusive, culturally safe workplaces.
* Work with Mentors to ensure content reflects participant goals, workplace readiness and progression.

Participant Support & Progression

* Build strong, respectful relationships with participants, recognising strengths and celebrating progress.
* Provide practical within the learning environment to help support participants address barriers and move toward employment outcomes.
* Support personalised learning and job-readiness pathways linked to local industry opportunities.

Collaboration & Teamwork

* Work closely with Mentors, the Counsellor, and the Industry Engagement Officer to align training, wellbeing supports, participant goals and employer engagement opportunities.

Program Operations & Logistics

* Lead and coordinate workshops, excursions, guest speaker visits, and celebration events, in line with program objectives and learning outcomes.
* Work in close partnership with the Course Administrator to ensure bookings, venue readiness, rescheduling and resources are in place for smooth delivery.
* Support tracking of participation, engagement, andprogression data to contribute to program evaluation.

Essential Selection Criteria:

* Experience delivering group learning in community-based or non-traditional settings.
* Ability to facilitate practical workshops that build soft skills and employability.
* Adaptable and energetic facilitation style to support diverse learning needs, including participants with low LLN or trauma backgrounds.
* Ability to create inclusive, culturally safe, and trauma-aware learning environments.
* Strong relationship-building skills and a strengths-based approach to participant engagement.
* Experience developing session plans, learning materials, and facilitation resources.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to engage participants and stakeholders.
* Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, with the ability to manage files and data digitally (e.g. SharePoint).
* Knowledge of employment pathways and life skills relevant to NT industries such as care, trades, hospitality, or administration.
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
* Commitment to confidentiality, cultural respect, and safe program delivery.

Highly Desirable Criteria:

* Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent
* Lived experience or strong relational ties with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
* Background in youth work, coaching, employment services, or community facilitation.
* Experience in co-designing or delivering place-based training, including development of locally relevant content.
* Practical experience in relevant industries (e.g. trades, community services, admin, hospitality).
* Confidence working in informal settings outside traditional classrooms (e.g. outdoor learning, yarning spaces).

Employment is Subject to the Provision of the Following:

* National Police Clearance (no more than three months old)
* NT Working with Children (OCHRE) Card
* Current Australia Driver's Licence
* Current First Aid
