About the Role
Sky News is seeking a skilled and adaptable News Camera Operator to join our team in London. The role is based in London and will be offered as a two‐year maximum term contract. Your primary responsibility is to capture compelling visual content for daily broadcasts, breaking news events, and feature stories.
Key Responsibilities
* Set up and operate professional ENG and Full‐Frame cameras in the field, managing lighting, composition, and audio for live shots and feature stories.
* Set up and operate live shots via LiveU and handle multi‐camera shoots, managing return IFB and ensuring seamless execution under high‐pressure breaking news situations.
* Maintain your camera kit to a high standard for 24/7 use, assist video journalists with their gear, and support the engineering team with remote studio equipment.
* Edit gathered news footage directly in the field when required using non‐linear editing software.
* Set up all broadcast equipment safely and efficiently in line with strict safety protocols, and maintain readiness for travel across the UK, Europe, and beyond on short notice.
Qualifications
* Minimum of 3–4 years of experience operating broadcast cameras within a metropolitan or national news environment.
* Proficient with professional ENG and Full‐Frame camera systems, with a strong understanding of lighting and audio.
* Solid experience with live transmission and non‐linear editing software (e.g., Premiere Pro, Avid).
* Physical fitness to carry and operate heavy equipment in varied, challenging, or dangerous field environments.
* Valid driver's licence and absolute flexibility to work irregular hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, public holidays, and to deploy internationally with very little notice.
* Principled professional with strong teamwork skills, capable of coordinating casual and freelance staff as needed.
