Overview
The Emergency Department at Launceston General Hospital is a large, fast-paced service that operates 24/7 as the main referral centre for Northern Tasmania. The team is made up of emergency physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, paramedics, and support staff who work together to provide timely, high-quality care for patients presenting with a wide range of acute medical and trauma conditions. The department is supported by experienced clinical and operational leaders who oversee service delivery, staff development, and continuous improvement initiatives. As part of this team you will work closely with senior executives and managers, providing the administrative support that enables them to focus on leading a critical service. The Emergency Department has a strong culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and professional growth.
Responsibilities
* Provide high‑level executive and administrative support to the Emergency Department leadership team.
* Manage complex calendars, coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, and take accurate minutes.
* Draft, review, and manage confidential correspondence, reports, and briefing materials.
* Act as the first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring professional and timely communication.
* Support the flow of information between the Emergency Department, the wider hospital, and the Department of Health Tasmania.
* Monitor and manage priority tasks and deadlines in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
* Maintain accurate records, filing systems, and administrative processes in line with government standards and policies.
* Exercise discretion and sound judgment in handling sensitive information and matters of urgency.
* Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture.
Qualifications
* Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
* High‑level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare accurate correspondence, reports, and meeting documentation.
* Preferred applicants will have proven experience providing executive or senior administrative support, ideally within a complex organisation.
* Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment when dealing with sensitive information.
* Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software, with the ability to adapt to new systems and processes.
* Initiative, flexibility, and problem‑solving skills to support effective decision‑making and day‑to‑day operations.

Details of Appointment
Permanent, part‑time, day worker position, working 60 hours per fortnight, commencing from a mutually agreed upon date. Hours are to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full‑time, part‑time, and casual vacancies.
Salary
$73,811 to $79,779 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount. Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
