Position Overview
With 265 beds, Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital is a major health facility in the heart of the beautiful New England / North West region of NSW, providing a wide range of high-quality, patient-focused care. An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to join the team at Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital. Our team includes four permanent Registrars and three JMOs. Responsibilities include elective surgery, trauma theatre, orthopaedic and fracture clinics, daily ward rounds, part of the on-call roster, and teaching and supporting the Registrar team. Temporary VMO or Staff Specialist contracts are available for up to 12 months with potential extension. Accommodation and a car are provided.
Mandatory Requirements
Admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth, and on-call services as required by HNELHD
Availability during rostered hours and on-call, including clinical handover, supervision, teaching, and emergency care
Provision of education and research as required by HNELHD
Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (Orthopaedic Surgery) and/or specialist registration with AHPRA
Recent and comprehensive experience in Orthopaedic Surgery
Demonstrated scholarship, ongoing professional development, and ability to mentor trainees
Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with patients, colleagues, and the public
Ability to collaborate within an interdisciplinary team and with stakeholders
Leadership and management skills, including adaptability, safety, and quality improvement experience
Commitment to professional development, peer review, and clinical governance
Advocacy contributions towards individual and societal health
