**About the Opportunity**
As a key contributor to the Finance Branch, the Accounting Operation Lead collaborates across teams to ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and statutory requirements, drives process improvement initiatives and enhances financial governance. This role also acts as a backup for the Manager Financial Accounting, assuming leadership of the Financial Accounting function during periods of absence.
The Accounting Operations Lead is accountable for the following measurable outcomes:
- Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger, as well as compliance with financial regulations and policies.
- Developing and implementing methodologies for accruals and balance sheet reconciliations to adhere to best practice standards.
- Preparing statutory financial statements and reports in line with Australian Accounting Standards and FRDs.
- Submitting statutory reports, including trial balances, in a timely and accurate manner.
- Collaborating with external auditors as the primary point of contact and assisting the audit process by providing accurate documentation and addressing queries in a timely manner.
- Working towards continuous improvement by optimising financial workflows using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
- Fostering a collaborative culture by supporting, mentoring and supervising junior team members.
- Leading initiatives to improve efficiency, reporting accuracy, and financial processes.
- Supporting the preparation of technical accounting position papers to ensure seamless operations.
**About You**
In addition, you will come to us with:
- CPA or CA accreditation.
- Extensive experience in financial accounting, including preparing statutory financial statements and supporting external audits.
- A solid track record of working in adherence to Australian Accounting Standards, Financial Reporting Directions (FRDs), and statutory compliance requirements
- Demonstrated experience working in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, including a demonstrable track record of streamlining financial processes, manage general ledger systems, and address system-related queries.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and managing complex balance sheet reconciliations and accrual methodologies.
- Experience in statutory compliance, including BAS, FBT, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
- Experience utilising Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
- Demonstrated experience in working with a team, and a solid track record of providing guidance and mentoring to junior staff and fostering team development and accountability.
- A solid track record of excellent stakeholder engagement, including adapting complex financial information to suit audience needs.
- Experience in public sector financial governance frameworks, including FRDs (desirable).
