About the opportunity
Southern Cross University’s Faculty of Health is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Technical and Laboratory Officer to join our Gold Coast campus and coordinate laboratory operations with a focus on Biomedical Science and Medical Laboratory Science. Essentially, you have specialised skills in one or more of the following areas: immunology, microbiology, haematology, genetics, or biochemistry.
You’ll play a vital role overseeing and maintaining the day-to-day operational functions of laboratories and workspaces while providing expert support to teaching and research activities within PC1 and PC2 facilities. You will provide expert advice to users of the spaces and ensure designated areas are operating effectively and safely. Your key responsibilities will include:
* Coordinating and undertaking operational activities, teaching and research technical support, and daily workflows in Biomedical Science laboratories.
* Managing and maintaining specialised laboratory infrastructure and ensuring compliance with PC1 and PC2 certification, safety management systems, and relevant legislation standards.
* Providing expert technical and day-to-day support to academic staff, researchers and students while advising on effective and safe work procedures, protocols and technologies.
About you
You will bring strong technical expertise in biomedical and medical laboratory science and thrive in a laboratory environment that supports practical, student-centred learning. You will demonstrate a high level of organisation, safety awareness, and team coordination skills. More specifically, you will have:
* A relevant degree or higher qualifications in Biomedical Science or a related discipline and at least three years experience in a relevant technical laboratory field, or equivalent industry experience.
* Proficiency in the routine operation and maintenance of biomedical laboratory equipment and processes, particularly for immunological, microbiological, haematological, cell culture or genetic techniques. Proficiency in chemical and biochemical processes and equipment operation and maintenance is also desirable.
* Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills, including proven ability to develop a positive team environment and demonstrate technical procedures to staff and students.
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience of current and emerging biomedical technologies, standards and services, including PC1 and PC2 facilities, relevant to a teaching and research environment.
* Current Hepatitis B. vaccination and requirement to hold and maintain current First Aid and Resuscitation certificates.
Salary and benefits

* Full-time, continuing (permanent).
* Located at Gold Coast, QLD 4225, a location that offers the very best of an Australian coastal lifestyle, proximity to world class beaches and World Heritage rainforests, free on-site parking and proximity to the Gold Coast Airport.
* HEW Level 6. The base salary ranges from $92,716 - $101,691 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $118,978.
