At de Witt Ecology, we believe that strong science and local knowledge are key to meaningful ecological outcomes. We are looking for a Senior Ecologist (or experienced Ecologist ready to step up) to join our close-knit team and help grow the business while mentoring junior staff and shaping how we deliver ecology in NSW. Responsibilities
- Lead or contribute to field surveys, ecological assessments (e.g. BDARs), monitoring programs, and strategic advice.
- Coordinate end-to-end project delivery, including planning, timelines, budgets, and reporting.
- Mentor and support junior team members, particularly in the field and during reporting phases.
- Liaise with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality work.
- Prepare technical reports, tenders, and management plans.
- Contribute to business development and help shape future project directions.
What We’re Looking For
- Senior Ecologist: 5+ years of consulting experience in NSW or equivalent; strong analytical thinker with practical problem-solving; specialist in ecological assessment and management; BAM accreditation; strong reporting and client liaison skills; strong project management skills; passion for mentoring and leadership.
- Ecologist: 2–4 years of ecological consulting experience; familiarity with State and Commonwealth environmental legislation and policy; strong field skills (flora and/or fauna); excellent written communication; team player; curious and adaptable.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Flora, fauna, or GIS specialization; stewardship, offsetting or restoration experience; BAM accreditation (or pathway toward it); PhD or Honours in a relevant discipline (not essential).
