About the Team
The newly formed Energy Team sits at the forefront of providing legal advice on the State's clean energy transition. We advise on the legal frameworks that will shape NSW's future energy systems, covering the Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, energy emergencies, gas and pipeline regulation, consumer protections and emerging climate and decarbonisation initiatives.
About the Role
As a Principal Legal Officer you will have carriage of your own matters, build client relationships across our client teams, and manage the delivery of legal services across several of DCCEEW's strategic priorities. You will lead, manage and support junior lawyers, while delivering high‐quality, solution‐focused legal advice within tight and competing timeframes.
About You
* Highly motivated, experienced energy law professional with a passion for delivering quality legal advice and services.
* Collaborative, responsive to client timeframes, attentive to detail and highly skilled in advice writing, research and analytical thinking.
* Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, capable of leading and supporting junior staff.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to build strong, collaborative relationships with clients and team members.
* Previous experience in commercial energy law (project delivery or reform) or regulatory energy law (National Electricity Laws and Rules) is essential.
* Experience in administrative law, statutory interpretation and legislative reform will be viewed favourably.
* Admitted or qualified as a Solicitor or Barrister in the Supreme Court of NSW and hold, or be eligible to hold, an unrestricted NSW Practising Certificate.
