Offer description

Youth Development Officer — South Mackay

About Us

Genuine Outcomes is a residential care organisation in Mackay that knows exactly where we are going. Expanding with new residences opening over the coming months, we have immediate YDO vacancies which means more roles, more growth, and more opportunity for the right people.

We operate to HSQF standards and hold ourselves to continuous improvement across the board, for our operation and for the young people we care for.

We're paper-free, open-door, and straight-talking, giving YDOs more time to achieve positive outcomes. Our directors and senior management are accessible, positive and part of the solution. We back our team, we communicate honestly, and we cultivate a workplace that makes good people stay.

If you're here for the right reasons, you'll fit right in.

The Role

As a Youth Development Officer, you'll provide day-to-day care and guidance to at-risk young people in a Residential Out of Home Care setting. We believe a residence is a home, not a holding pattern. Getting kids engaged in the community, pursuing interests, and building connections outside the house is central to what we do. It builds self-reliance, encourages social growth, and gives young people a genuine stake in their own lives. Your role is to support that, alongside building real relationships, running programs that develop life skills, and being a steady, trustworthy presence in their lives.

What You'll Do

* Supervise and support young people, keeping them safe while helping them discover their strengths

* Build genuine relationships and be the role model and mentor they need

* Implement personalised care plans and programs in collaboration with the Youth Development Coordinator

* Facilitate group activities, workshops, and life skills programs

* Maintain accurate case notes and progress records

* Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

* Respond to crisis situations with calm, de-escalation, and good judgement

* Support young people in developing independent living skills including cooking, budgeting, and personal care

What We Need From You

* Compliance with Minimum Qualification Standards

* Queensland Blue Card and Police Check (within last 3 months)

* NDIS Worker Screening (Yellow Card) or willingness to obtain

* Current First Aid and CPR certificates

* Hope and Healing Certificate (to be completed before commencement)

* Open Queensland Driver's Licence

* Availability for a rotating roster including days, weekends, and sleepovers

* Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust quickly

* Ability to stay composed under pressure and maintain routine

* Knowledge of trauma-informed care and positive behaviour support is an advantage

Why Join Us

* This is well-paid, meaningful work with real flexibility.

* You'll be part of a tight, supportive team of carers who look out for each other and take the work seriously.

* As we open new residences, the people already with us will have first access to new roles and opportunities.

How to Apply

Send your CV and a brief cover letter covering your availability and relevant experience. We're hiring for immediate vacancies and building a pipeline for upcoming roles as new residences come online.
