Job Summary
In this role, as a Health & Safety Advisor, you will establish industrial hygiene processes and programs on large or complex projects, using judgment, experience and science to reduce the potential for adverse impacts. You will conduct research and assessments, analyse data, track performance and trends. Your methods of controlling potential health hazards will keep employees working safely.
Major Responsibilities
- Assists execution of the safety component of an ESH Program inclusive of technical and administrative aspects.
- Helps prepare and implement Safety and Health Management Plans, associated plans and procedures, and training program.
- Provides input to Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Subcontracts, Commissioning, and other groups to assure that safety and health requirements are integrated within project planning and execution.
- Interprets safety and health requirements and provides comprehensive assistance on plan preparation, risk assessment, and ESH program execution.
- Researches moderately complex issues and regulatory requirements and prepares documentation and reports.
- Provides support and guidance for safety studies, risk assessments, and program reviews and ESH program execution.
- Interfaces and communicates with stakeholders and helps resolve their concerns.
- Participates in meetings with customers, team members, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Conducts ESH inspections and monitoring to identify hazards and risks, evaluate controls and corrective actions, and assess compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel requirements.
Education And Experience Requirements
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to occupational safety or health and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge And Skills
- Must have a sufficient number of specialized courses and professional certifications.
- Broad, progressive work experience in safety and health across multiple industries.
- Extensive experience in implementing and managing WHS training programs.
- Knowledge of WHS sciences/engineering systems, principles, and methodologies.
- Extensive and demonstrated knowledge of national WHS laws/regulations and regulatory/resource agencies permitting processes and responsibilities, industry standards for WHS compliance, and best management practices for minimizing potential WHS impacts during project execution.
