Who We Are

At Saunders & Ward, we're a proud Tasmanian family-owned business with over a century of experience in general engineering. Our modern fabrication and machining workshops are located just 10 minutes south of Hobart in Kingston. We specialise in the manufacture, repair, refurbishment, installation, and maintenance of industrial equipment.

We are currently seeking a Machinist to support our workshop operations and Mechanical Fitter to support both the workshop and site operations.

The Machinist Position

Our machine shop offers a diverse range of capabilities with large variety of CNC and conventional machine tools. Our machinists routinely work with a variety of materials such as mild steel, stainless, bronze, copper, aluminium and plastics. The work is interesting and varies greatly from basic components to machining unique and quality critical assets.

As a Manual or CNC Machinist at S&W, some of your duties will require you to be able to:

* Carry out accurate and efficient machining of components from engineering drawings and samples.
* Operate a variety of size and type manual machines including lathes, slotting and milling machines.
* CNC program, both at the machine and using CAD/CAM software applications.
* Set up and operate CNC 3 axis milling machines fitted with Fanuc controllers and Okuma lathes.
* Determine material and equipment requirements and task sequences.
* Inspect and verify parts by using precision measuring equipment.
* Assist in training of apprentices.

The Mechanical Fitting Position

Our mechanical fitting operations range from plant maintenance through to complete assembly and testing of manufactured equipment. Work varies greatly from small one-off items to major projects and breakdown and repair work. Our Mechanical Fitters often work individually but can work in teams when handling larger tasks.

As a Mechanical Fitter at S&W, some of your duties will require you to be able to:

* Dismantle and assemble mechanical equipment to specification.
* Carry out maintenance, refurbishment and repairs of plant & equipment.
* Accurately measure components and record dimensions for quality assurance.
* Carry out work both in the workshop and on site.
* Operate manual machine tools to produce basic components.

Requirements

Successful candidates must have/be:

* Commitment to safe work practices.
* Hold a mechanical trade qualification.
* Experienced working with small to large scale jobs in an industrial jobbing environment.
* Able to complete jobs on time and in accordance with quality standards.
* Able to pass drug and alcohol screening.
